How to Get More Out of Christian Games

A fantastic way to involve gospel discussion in the family is to play Bible-based games. Sometimes, however, the focus ends up being more on winning rather than the principles trying to be taught. The following are some ideas on how to get more religion out of these wonderful Bible-based games. For example, after each round, a Bible verse can be found that has to do with the idea that was presented. Even this can become a game by seeing who will be the first to find such a scripture. Religious song can be involved by singing praises or hymns that correlate with the game. Family members can each share a religious experience or tell a Bible story that has to do with ideas from the game. Starting and ending each game with a prayer is also a great idea.

Helping the Little Children Come to Christ

In Matthew of the New Testament, it is read that Jesus directed to "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them". Christ asks that we help even the littlest on earth come to him and know him. Since many young ones do not yet know how to read or cannot understand everything that happens during a worship service, there exist several other ways to help the children come to Jesus. One such way is through playing games that they can understand and participate in. Some such Christian games include Ark, Noah’s Quest and several VeggieTales card games. Bible toys also help bring the stories to life and allow children to reenact and visualize the stories that are so important to know. Such toys include Tales of Glory, like David and Goliath, Jesus Feeding the Five Thousand and Moses and the Ten Plagues. Puzzles, like the Day of Creation jigsaw, are an additional way to acquaint little children with the gospel. These tools will help even the littlest of God’s children come unto him with honest interest.

Games Help Stretch the Brain

Games do not solely entertain, but often challenge gamers and arouse their brains. Players must make rational decisions or calculated risks during game play to meet the object of the game. The game of Clue might be one of the easiest games to see that games really do promote mental titillation. In Clue, players try to solve a murder mystery by slowly receiving clues throughout the game. Using deductive logic the first player to correctly guess the murderer, the weapon and the location wins the game. Rush Hour is another game that promotes stimulation, this time using problem solving and thinking outside the box. In Rush Hour, players have to move certain cars like sliding puzzle pieces to create a clear path for another car to pass through. Ticket to Ride, Alhambra, and other games have players exert various different mental skills. Players have to practice making decisions. For example, they must choose between spending money while they can or risk saving it for a bigger investment. Games like these prompt players to carefully use their money and meet goals in a timely fashion, just as in the business world. These are but a very few of the mental skills that can be developed and enhanced within games.

Learning While Playing

Learning can be as fun as playing a game. Learning in the form of better understanding and knowing culture happens in trivia games such as the Game of Knowledge, Outburst, and Trivial Pursuit. These games also present items and ideas in which gamers may have interest but had never heard of before. Many games teach children new vocabulary within the rules or as part of the game play. Even adults learn new words, especially in games like Taboo, Scrabble, and Scattergories. There are certain games that typify a more complex system that exists in the world, but bring it to a basic level. Pit typifies the stock market, Masterpiece resembles real live auctions, and Monopoly teaches principles on real estate, including that of mortgage. Who knew learning could be so much fun?
