Bible Toys Can Help Kids Learn About the Scriptures Jedi, Spider-Man, and Transformers are all popular toys of super heroes that children love. Children should also be learning about real heroes, like Paul, Moses, and Esther. There are toys now to help children better know these beloved prophets and holy people. This way, kids can better understand and even act out inspiring stories like David & Goliath and Daniel in the Den of Lions. Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand and a children’s Nativity are some of the available toys based on the New Testament. Peter, Mary, Samson and many others come as individual figurines. These toys are great to keep children occupied during a restless worship service. These Christian toys are a great learning tool for young children. They will help them distinguish one Bible hero from another, and help them remember which one goes with which story. Deciding Between Online Games or Playing Games with the Family Any leisure time we have is precious and we want to make sure to use it wisely. Children and adults alike have trouble deciding whether to use their time playing online games or playing games with one another. However, there are many more positives that come out of playing a game with the family versus playing an online game. For one, family games allow everyone to interact, whereas online gaming requires a computer per player and most family members will not be able to get in on the fun. Virtual games end at best with virtual relationships. Family games lead to stronger, real family bonds. Many online games contain much violence and other degrading material that are not wholesome for younger children. Family games rarely if ever touch on such matters and never at the same gravity as online games. Family games have a tendency to promote learning and education, exercising the brain and learning new vocabulary as well as discovering things about one another. Online gaming usually teaches little more than strategy and planning, and that at a basic level if any. Because online games usually do not have a definitive end, gamers become hooked on these virtual realities for hours that add up quickly to months lost to these games. Games that are played with the family have a relatively short range of game play time so that the family can go on to different activities. Memories are hard to be created inside a virtual reality. Family games can lead to memories and jokes that will be remembered for years to come. Online games lead to additional costs, like monthly fees and costly expansions, that family games do not subject gamers to. Although online games might seem easier to do during our leisure time, it is clearly not as beneficial for ourselves or our families as family games are. Keeping the Purpose of Christian Gaming Christian games, like those based on the Bible, are great ways to bring up gospel conversation. However, sometimes these games are played just like other secular games and their purpose is forgotten. The following are some ideas on how to get more religion out of these wonderful Bible-based games. For example, after each round, a Bible verse can be found that has to do with the idea that was presented. Even this can become a game by seeing who will be the first to find such a scripture. Another way is to sing a related hymn or praise after each round. Family members can each share a religious experience or tell a Bible story that has to do with ideas from the game. Games can start and finish with a prayer of thanks to the Lord and ask for blessing for everyone present. Party Games for Christians Many times, members of a congregation get together for some light-hearted fun and clean entertainment. Games are always a great way to get everyone involved and make fun memories at such occasions. There are many games out there that have a Bible Edition that are fun to play in groups. In Apples to Apples: Bible Edition, one player acts as a judge. The other players choose out of their stack a description word that describes an object that has previously been chosen. The judge then decides which one he or she likes best and that player wins the round. Words like “Jawbone”, “Helpful”, “Baptism”, “Mary”, and “Virtuous” all appear in this game, among hundreds of others. For Charade lovers, there is also Guesstures: Bible Edition. This version comes with words to act out like “Mountain”, “Husband” and “Candle”. Each card comes with a Bible scripture at the bottom. One more great game that Christian party-goers will love is the Bible version of The Game of Scattergories. This version of the favorite list game comes with fields like “Fruits of the Spirit”, “Plagues” and “Things that are Counted. ”With games such as these, players are sure to have a hilarious and uplifting time.
