Great Christian Games to Play in the Car Traveling in the car with the family is a great time to switch the radio off and bond together. One way to talk on a more religious note is to play games based on the Bible. The following are some examples of such games that the family can play together while inside a vehicle. The Bible version of Outburst is a hilarious way for the family and friends to bond while traveling. In Outburst: Bible Edition, top ten lists are given, and teams have a time limit to guess the most items on the list as possible. This version includes lists like “Animals in the Bible”, “Names For Christ”, and “Sons of Jacob”. A different but equally fun game to play in the car is the Bible version of Mad Gab. Bible Mad Gab takes well-known phrases from the Bible and changes them to sound like another phrase. For example, “Pills Are Offs Halt” is really “Pillar of Salt”. In Bible Blurt! gamers are read a definition and try to be the first to name the object being described. One card from this game might say, “Thanks to God expressed before and after meals”. The first player to guess the word “Grace!” wins that round. Certainly these games will lead to a more meaningful time with the family than just listening to the radio or watching movie. They may even bring up great gospel discussion. Deciding Between Online Games or Playing Games with the Family With all of the many entertainment options now available in today’s world, it is important that we decide wisely how to use our leisure time. More and more children and even parents are deciding to spend their time with online games rather than playing games with each other. However, there are many more positives that come out of playing a game with the family versus playing an online game. To start, everyone can join a family game. Online gaming usually means one person looking at one screen and anyone who wants to join must have his or her own computer. Games with the family allow for real interactions on a personal level. Online gaming relationships tend to be just as virtual as the game. Most games online are violent and treat other demeaning matter whereas family games avoid such subjects and are more wholesome for kids and adults alike. Family games have a tendency to promote learning and education, exercising the brain and learning new vocabulary as well as discovering things about one another. Online gaming usually teaches little more than strategy and planning, and that at a basic level if any. Many people become addicted to online gaming because it does not have a finite end. Hours, days, weeks, even months of life are lost this way. Family games have a defined beginning and end so the family can decide if they wish to play again or move on to another activity. More memories tend to be produced with family games and even pictures and videos are taken to remember the occasion. Similar things of such significance do not occur with online games. Online games lead to additional costs, like monthly fees and costly expansions, that family games do not subject gamers to. Despite the popularity of online games, these simply do not substitute for the fun and real bonding that comes from playing games with the family. How to Get More Out of Christian Games Bible games are an excellent way to involve the family in gospel discussion and in helping share Christian values. Unfortunately, these games are occasionally played in a way that the religious point is lost. The following are some ideas on how to get more religion out of these wonderful Bible-based games. One way is after each round to find a scripture in the Bible that is related to that certain topic or idea given. This can even turn into a game, as it can be made into a race to be the first to find the scripture. Before and after the game, hymns or praises about the ideas in the game can be sung to invite the Holy Spirit. Family members can each share a religious experience or tell a Bible story that has to do with ideas from the game. It is a good idea to start and end the game with a prayer as well to give thanks to God for each member of the family or the friends that are present. Teaching Christian Values in a Fun Way There is nothing more important than sharing your Christian faith with your children. Naturally, scripture study and attending worship services are invaluable. However, there are other ways to integrate gospel learning in your home. For example, children can learn about many scriptural stories and ideas through Christian-based games. These games help open the way for great teaching opportunities. Often, kids want to learn more about something they heard about in a game. Plus, it is easier for children to remember the stories and ideas when it is done in a fun, interactive manner. These games help furnace a desire in your children to want to learn more to the faith that is so valuable to you.
