Mental Stimulation Through Challenging Games

Games are not only good to keep entertained, but are fun ways for gamers to challenge themselves and activate their minds. Players must make rational decisions or calculated risks during game play to meet the object of the game. The game of Clue might be one of the easiest games to see that games really do promote mental titillation. In this game, deductive logic is used up to match up clues to find out who is the criminal. Rush Hour requires players to use problem solving skills and to see the big picture to find a solution. For this game, players must slide cars either vertically or horizontally on a grid to open a path for the main car to go through. Games like Alhambra and Ticket to Ride call for players to use several mental skills. These games involve decision-making, like between using your turn to take money for a future investment, or going ahead and spending now while there is still a chance. With games such as these, players develop skills on how and when to spend and on competitiveness, similar to the world of business. These skills among many others can be introduced and enhanced by playing games.

Dangers of Online Gaming

Even though online games are becoming more popular in today’s culture, they are still considered unsafe. Although each one decides for his or herself what is safe and what is not, there are certain aspects of online gaming that must be considered when deciding whether or not to enter or continue in the realm of online gaming. Since online games are part of a network that does not regulate who enters, gamers play with people they are unfamiliar with. Thus players will collaborate with people they otherwise would never play with if they knew more about who they were and their personality. Many of these online games are violent. Although some are fantasy-related, they do often involve the taking of lives of characters that are controlled by real people. Therefore, gamers are socializing with people who will not hesitate to kill or abuse another in a virtual setting. Anything can be said inside these networks, since there is no censor. That allows for much vulgar and vicious talk, which is not infrequent in these games. Many gamers become so addicted to these online games that they lose sleep, exercise and healthy diet. Whether or not online games really are dangerous, they are clearly risky and often degrading forms of entertainment.

Playing Games Leads to Learning

With all the fun that happens while playing a game, it is hard to perceive the learning that takes place. Learning in the form of better understanding and knowing culture happens in trivia games such as the Game of Knowledge, Outburst, and Trivial Pursuit. Such games also introduce gamers to new ideas and products that they may be interested in but were not aware of before. Children learn a lot of new words from games, whether inside the rules or at other points during the game. Even adults learn new words, especially in games like Taboo, Scrabble, and Scattergories. Other games show on a basic level how more complicated things work. Pit typifies the stock market, Masterpiece resembles real live auctions, and Monopoly teaches principles on real estate, including that of mortgage. Who knew learning could be so much fun?

Games for Christian Parties

Often, fellow church-goers join together for an evening of jolly and clean fun. One way to get everyone included and having fun is by playing games. There are many games out there that have a Bible Edition that are fun to play in groups. In Apples to Apples: Bible Edition, one player acts as a judge. The other players choose out of their stack a description word that describes an object that has previously been chosen. The judge then decides which one he or she likes best and that player wins the round. This Bible version has a list of hundreds of word that include “Helpful”, “Jawbone”, “Virtuous”, “Mary” and “Baptism”, to name a few. For Charade lovers, there is also Guesstures: Bible Edition. This version comes with words to act out like “Mountain”, “Husband” and “Candle”. Each card comes with a Bible scripture at the bottom. Scattergories: Bible Edition is even another way for Christian partiers to enjoy themselves. In this game, different topics are listed and players must write down objects that fit within that topic that start with a decided letter. The Bible version has topics such as “Things that are Counted”, “Fruits of the Spirit”, and “Plagues”. Games like these are guaranteed to help Christian party-goers have a positive experience together.
